About the Author
The material for this book has come from Henry Everitt’s experiences
leading small group discussions of Christianity and Bible Study on
Sunday mornings for almost 40 years. Beginning in 1966 at the First
United Methodist Church and presently at the Trinity United
Methodist Church, both in Huntsville, Alabama, Mr. Everitt has
learned much from his students about how to simplify Christianity.
He has learned well that the teen and college years are when many
people first begin to seriously think about what Christianity means
to them. He has also learned from his students that they struggle
with confusing words or explanations of Christianity which they call
"Christianese" or "church talk”. This limits their search for
understanding and discourages them.
In his professional career, Mr. Everitt served the
nation as an engineer working for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
Twice the recipient of Presidential citations for excellence in his
work, Mr. Everitt attributes his success in part to an ability to
simply and clearly express complex concepts to superiors as well as
subordinates. It is this same ability that has helped him succeed
in leading discussions of Christianity in small groups and to write
a book with this title.
While
Mr. Everitt has based Journey to Enduring Faith on his
experience with small groups, and has drawn much from his current
class of high school and college students, this writing is for
anyone who is searching to find a path from questions and doubts to
enduring faith. |
